Locals overwhelm Navy commissary
Posted: Oct 04, 2010 3:32 PMUpdated: Oct 04, 2010 3:32 PMGuam - After implementing a policy that allows civilians to be sponsored into the Navy Exchange and Commissary went into effect last week, over the weekend the commissary had to turn people away Sunday afternoon because of an excessive amount of visitors.
Although the new program will continue, according to Navy Spokesperson Lieutenant Jodie Cornell, as part of the policy change guest privileges may be restricted when there's a high volume of traffic, the policy can also be revoked if the Navy Exchange or commissary are tracking shortages in stock or excessively crowded stores.
The Navy also reminds everyone that guests are accompanying the shopper not shopping themselves.

Big policy change caused big problems. Some super angry people over this! Really can't blame the people of Guam for running at the opportunity for affordable, available items. They pay WAY too much for things out in town. I hope it works out for a happy medium- the commissary not overrun and more people of Guam getting non-overinflated priced merchandise.
I went to the commissary after the movies on Sunday afternoon to get fresh "buns" for our burgers and dogs...... I did not know about this new rule, but clearly, everyone else did. I had to wait just to get in the door. There were lots of people with carts full of meat, and there were naked shelves everywhere........including meat / dairy / chips and bread.
